Fashion weeks rock! They are definitely more than just another hyped-up media event. Whether in person or virtually, the fashion week season is THE opportunity to witness the fashion world feverishly laying it all on the line. It is an electrifying display of craft, creativity, vanity, ambition, kissing and crying. In short, enough spectacle and drama to last a good few months (until the next season).
Here is a look at what Spanish designers came up with for Spring-Summer 2015 season (with a focus on shoes and other accessories, of course), starting with my two favorite Valencian designers:
Dolores Cortés, the swimsuit queen, displayed her cool feminine pieces, pairing them with golden peep-toe wedge sandals in iridescent gold and tribal-style jewelry by El Mito de Gea,
and Francis Montesinos, whose gentle flowing style was complemented by embellishments in the form of flowers and pompoms. His dusty blues, pale greens, whites and orange reds played up the softness of the materials (check out that beautiful knitted top decorated with flowers). The models wore matching pompom wedges, adding even more femininity to the overall look. For the whites he chose pointy toe pumps in metallic silver.
Daniel Rabaneda, a young up-and-coming designer from Seville paired his organically structured, contrasty designs with lace-up high heel sandals, their sides cut-out and held together with buckles. A cool young look.
Ana Locking really doubled up on leather accessories. Her ensembles of stylishly narrow belts, perfectly round waist packs, huge contrasting leather straps and bandolera bags added another dimension to the outfits.
Juan Vidal bet on scrumptiously soft ankle boots in pure white and black, with flashy mirrored heels. Plus “Strawberry Fields Forever” themed clutches.
Alvarno‘s slightly somber stripes and geometric patterns were lit up by striking black and red stiletto sandals and deep orange and cobalt blue leather bags.
Desigual was its usual wild self, with fun prints and candy-colored patent leather sandals. That Alessandra Ambrosio is one fierce bunny!
Devota y Lomba clearly took some inspiration from the ancient world, with their ever so slightly draped white minimalistic dresses and Roman-style sandals with tiered leather straps going up almost to the knee.
In another throw-back to the classical world, Duyos staged a dance performance that had an air of a Greek tragedy. Real ballet dancers struck dramatic poses drawing attention to the draping and the shimmery quality of the fabric. Instead of pointe-shoes they wore cut-out sling backs in creamy suede with a bronze-colored arch-hugging strap in the middle.
Juanjo Oliva was all sophistication and elegance with black purses and red fringed suede loafers. Check out that wild onion-shaped satiny clutch though!
Roberto Verino‘s love for Mexico was imprinted on the whole collection. The beautiful hats, Aztec-inspired collars, soft bags, and, of course, the excellent Western leather in several colors for belts, ranchero boots, and clogs.
And the inimitable Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Her shows are known for their fantastic vibe of unbridled creativity. They are THE art event of the whole Madrid Fashion week! Check out that button dress – it’s absolutely amazing.
