Cuban Elegance

Cuban elegance was in the spotlight this past September during Madrid Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014 edition – Spanish brand eMe Shoes collaborated with fashion designer Cristina Piña in the show Habana 1948. The collection is a nostalgic trip to the glamour of pre-Castro Havana – the golden age of the Tropicana cabaret, music, parties, and dressing up for night time promenades on the Malecón, Havana’s majestic seaside walk.

eMe‘s pure and simple high-heel nude sandals blended perfectly with soft, airy, alluring white chic of the collection. Swinging feather headdresses, Pánama hats, and hand-crafted natural wood purses completed the look.

I confess – I have a weak spot for Havana. You don’t have to be Cuban to get caught up in this jewel of an old town by the aquamarine sea.

You can still catch fleeting glimpses of the 1948 Havana – it lives on to an extent in the defiant Habaneros who go out at night dressed to a tee, in the crumbling grand buildings, in the elegance of white linen and creamy crochet work on sale in the old town, in the clinking of the glasses at the Bodeguita del Medio.
