Shoes Extraordinaire

One of the main reasons I love Spanish shoes is the unbridled fantasy of the designers and their ability to channel their love of life into shoes. Their flight of fancy is wholeheartedly supported by the Spanish public, which loves to be original, extravagant, and daring. A “shoe extraordinaire” can mean a unique color combination, unusual texture, a special embellishment effect, or a “fashion quote” from a time long past. (See a fairy tale inspired post from last year here). I think that when it comes to shoes and fashion we stand to learn from the Spanish. The difference between an ordinary and an extraordinary day, it seems, can be as little as the right pair of shoes.

Here are some great fantasy shoes made by some of the most recognized Spanish brands:

These retro-style laced stiletto ankle boots with laminated leather detailing are also by Rebeca Sanver. I picture Mary Poppins wearing these, as she is flying with her umbrella! Available at YOOX (click on the picture for more information).

Who better to embody the idea of the fun, unusual, unorthodox, and extraordinaire than the famous magical nanny from the children’s novel series by Pamela Lyndon Travers. I would buy these “Mary Poppins” boots, stiletto heels and all, and dance on the street like Julie Andrews!
