Eight Summer Trends by an Amateur Trend-Spotter

Until recently, I have paid little attention to trends. Doing this blog changed that and made me understand that having an interest in trends does not mean that you have to follow them blindly. It’s all about awareness. There is no need to become a “trendaholic”, but I think that it’s useful and fun to have a general idea of what’s considered “in” at the moment. It’s like reading the business section of a newspaper, just for fashion. After all, fashion is a big business too. I’ve spotted a few general trends while going through the Spring and Summer collections of Spanish shoe companies and wanted to share them with you.

#1 Black & White The black and white combination  is formal, but far from boring. It can look very sharp, but it is also high-maintenance. Meanwhile, geometric black & white patterns inspired by the rage for the British “houndstooth” design are making a smooth transition from winter to summer.

# 3 Animal patterns

Animal patterns and textures continue from the winter season. They are definitely considered very fashion forward. Wear those and the odds are you will be called a fashionista.

# 4 Metallics Whether it’s silver, gold, or copper, metallic colors continue to be big. They are perfect for a party, and, if not overdone, also look great in a variety of other situations. Metallics will definitely bring attention to your feet: everybody likes looking at pretty shiny things.

# 5 Nautical Stripes The pleasures of the summer… This might not be true for all companies out there, but Mediterranean shoe makers love their nautical stripes.

# 6 Transparent & Mesh More and more companies are making transparent or partly-transparent shoes. The effect can be quite striking. If done well, they don’t look cheap at all. Mesh is airy, but also mysterious and sexy. BZ7

# 8 Texture

Emphasizing the texture is becoming a preoccupation with many shoe makers. It’s all part of treating the shoes as iconic objects. The Spanish are poets of texture. The love showcasing the materials they use. It’s a great thing for the senses and makes the shoes a lot more interesting to look at and, of course, touch. CastanerRania
