Spanish sneakers are in a class of their own, because of their originality, hand-made quality, comfort, and the overall cool factor. Some are sold worldwide, some are only available within the European Union or, in some cases, only within Spain. But if you had a craving for a swell pair of Spanish sneakers right now, where would you go to get it?
Well, I would recommend browsing YOOX and FarFetch – they carry many Spanish brands (YOOX more than FarFetch) and they are great online shopping destinations, with fast, hassle-free shipping, quality service, and free returns. The prices vary, of course. YOOX offers more radical discounts, FarFetch prices usually start in the $100s.
Here I compiled a list of ten Spanish sneakers that are only one click away. Some are great bargains, some are expensive, but I don’t like to separate them by price: if something is really nice but pricey, I’ll post it along with something that is equally nice, but much less expensive. At least you get to compare. I love these mixed pattern textile espadrille sneakers by Gaimo. The colors are great, the shape is nice, and they would pair beautifully with anything denim (blue or white). To see what sizes are available, click on the picture. Keep in mind that Gaimo fit is rather on the narrow side.

Palomitas is a more casual offshoot of Paloma Barcelo – a brand that is known for their towering avant-garde style espadrilles and espadrille-type shoes. I would not even call them strictly espadrilles – they are more like improvisations on the theme. You know when a musician takes a basic theme and proceeds to improvise away? Well, that’s what Paloma Barcelo does with the espadrille. The Palomitas line often includes sneakers: this pair, available on YOOX, is made of black woven leather that is sitting on a rope base that is sitting on a partial black rubber platform. These sneakers are anything but conventional.

Munich X is a serious sports footwear brand that does awesome fashion sneakers. Fashion sneakers get sold out very fast, so not many of them make it over to YOOX at the end of the season. I was smitten with these futuristic-looking”crinkled” effect sneakers when they came out (last year) and now they are on YOOX. Not too many sizes are left (mine, for example), but I’m already jealous of the girl who is going to own these cool Spanish sneakers.

Gioseppo does a lot of sporty stuff, with all kinds of different frills. I like the simpler versions, like these low-cut sneakers covered in black lace. The braided rope that goes around the sneaker does not spoil the look at all. The price is really good too!

Vidorreta takes great care in selecting fashionable materials with light-catching textures. This silvery espadrille is made of leather and sequins. Sequins are very popular in footwear these days (check out the Munich X sneaker from their new Spring-Summer 2017 collection). However, the same material can be used in different ways. The Vidorreta sequin sneaker is shinier than the Munich X one. It really is a matter of taste. Keep in mind that Vidorreta, like Gaimo, designs with a normal to narrow foot in mind.

This Paloma Barceló sneaker is a real luxury: calf leather in light metallic green is the epitome of spiffiness. The oversized fringe over the laces is an unusual twist. Exquisitely put together, this sneaker is a cool fashion item. I’m not sure I could pull it off, though. Would you?

Also by Paloma Barceló and also made from calf leather, this sleek rope platform sneaker is no less posh than the green metallic one above. Except this one is silver and it doesn’t half the fringe. I guess that’s what makes it a bit cheaper.

The top position for price goes to these pink Pedro García sneakers. They are literally made of silk, with raw, “unfinished” edges. A different type of luxury than the Paloma Barcelós above, but also in very high style.

The Barcelona-based Muro Exe sneaker brand is quickly gaining in popularity. A friend of mine owns a pair of black ones from the “Density” collection and thinks that they are totally cool. Well, they certainly are! Up until now the color range of all Muro Exe sneakers has been restricted to black, gray, and other cool tones, like burgundy and green. For the Spring-Summer 2017 season, however, the brand came up with a range of new colors called the “Chroma” collection. The “Chroma” collection is a new take on the “Atom” line of sneakers. “Atom“‘s 3D breathable technical mesh exterior makes it a good choice for the summer. The rubber sole is mixed with EVA – a particularly light and shock-absorbing synthetic material. I especially like the navy and the coral gray versions. At 65 Euros these sneakers are affordable and the shipping is very fast. Muro Exe delivers worldwide.
