The Sara wedge by Castañer can be described with one word: “polished”. Everything about it shines. The buckle-fastening upper is made of light yellow patent leather and the wedge is made from colour matching varnished cork. This is the unusual part – cork is a humble material that does not usually get the same treatment as leather. Obviously, the designers thought that it was important to treat all materials with equal interest and respect. It makes good sense, considering that cork makes up the greatest part of the shoe – the wedge is 13cm high with a 4 cm platform. Besides, the cork itself is very interesting to look at – the varnish really brings out its porous texture.
